RBWN’s annual charity auction!

We are proud to have the Rocklanad Business Women’s Network (RBWN) Monthly Luncheons. They held their annual Charity Event this past week.

“About 50 women came together on Wednesday to shop and raise money at the same time. The Rockland Busines Women’s Network held their annual holiday re-gifting auction and luncheon to benefit its organization and a local charity.

Each year, the RBWN picks a charity to fundraise for and for 2011, it was the Pajama Program. This program gives pjs and books to kids in need, some of which are orphans.

“Half of the money raised in the auction benefits RBWN and the other goes to the Pajama Program. It’s a 50/50 split,” said Member Christine Baker of CB Creative Inc. THis is one of the really fun events we have. Everything is very business-like, but today is very fun.”

Usually the members of RBWN meet for luncheons, which brings in a program speaker. Their meetings also offer a chance to network and discuss possible fundraising plans.

At Wednesday’s luncheon at the Regency Ballroom at the Comfort Inn & Suites, the ladies brought in a new, unused item to be auctioned off. There was a variety of gift options from stuffed animals and throw pillows to gift cards and wine stoppers. Many checked off a few people from their Holiday shopping list.

“We know economic times are difficult, but as business women, we like to give back to those less fortunate,” said President Dara L Onofrio Esq. “It’s a fun auction. Last year we raised $1,200. I think we’re going to surpass that this year.”

And they did. The auction raised over $2,000.

Started in 1979, the Rockland Business Women’s Network supports and  empowers women by providing networking and educational opportunities.  This non-profit organization focuses on leadership and professional  development, building personal and professional relationships, and  community support through scholarships and training.
